Piracy has long been a problem in the software sector,
with annual losses for the year 2000 estimated by the B.S.A. at $11.75 billion.
With an ever growing software market and alternate platforms now in the mainstream,
piracy is a crisis which has already proved it will not disappear overnight.
For any software author concerned about piracy, earning
their deserved revenue or simply not wanting to see their application 'cracked' and distributed to
thousands via the WWW, developing a secure software protection is often time-consuming and difficult
to accomplish.
While several commercial systems are available to aid
developers with a 'point-and-click' protection for their applications, the majority of these can be
easily bypassed within minutes. For those that do offer a higher standard of security the licensing
options are often restrictive, offering only a single license type.
Should you have 'unusual' requirements for a your registration
system such as creating serial numbers to work for a particular set of domains, perhaps for
volume licensing or a need to embed numerous license options in the key you will have trouble finding
any existing ready-made software protection to suit your needs.
